Get your photograph clicked
Use a recent photo (within 3 months) against a plain white background. Studio or mobile camera both work — as long as lighting is good and the background is pure white. Wear formal clothes. No sunglasses, no head covering, no shadows on the face.
Resize photo to 200×230px using the Photo Resize tool
Open the Photo Resize tool, upload your photo, set width to 200 and height to 230, and adjust JPEG quality to keep the file between 20–50KB. Download the resized JPG — this is what you upload to mpsconline.gov.in.
Prepare your signature
Sign on plain white paper with a black or dark blue ball pen. Photograph or scan it clearly. Open the Signature Crop tool, crop tightly around your signature, resize to 140×60px, and compress between 10–20KB. Save as JPG.
Scan and compress your certificates
Scan at 150–200 DPI. If any PDF exceeds 1MB, use the PDF Compress tool. For multi-page certificates, combine using PDF Merge. For image-format certificates, convert first with Image to PDF.
Verify all files before submitting on mpsconline.gov.in
Before opening the portal, confirm: photo is 20–50KB, signature is 10–20KB, all PDFs are under 1MB. Rename files without special characters (photo.jpg, signature.jpg). Read the notification carefully — limits can change between exam cycles.

Caste Validity Certificate is mandatory for MPSC
Unlike other state PSCs, MPSC strictly requires a Caste Validity Certificate (issued by the Scrutiny Committee) in addition to the regular Caste Certificate for all reserved category candidates. Without it, your application will be treated as Open Category. Apply for Caste Validity well in advance — it can take months to obtain.
Common Reasons MPSC Applications Get Rejected Due to Document Issues
Photo not exactly 200×230px
Wrong dimensions — even by a few pixels — cause upload failure or distorted display on the hall ticket. Use the resize tool to match exactly.
Photo file below 20KB or above 50KB
MPSC has both a minimum and maximum size. An overly compressed photo (under 20KB) is also rejected. Target 30–45KB for safe submission.
PNG uploaded instead of JPG
mpsconline.gov.in requires JPG/JPEG format. PNG files are rejected even when dimensions and size are correct. Always save as JPG before uploading.
Non-white background in photo
Off-white, light blue, or studio backdrop colors are rejected. The background must be pure white. Specifically ask your studio for a plain white background.
Missing Caste Validity Certificate
Reserved category candidates who submit only a Caste Certificate without a Caste Validity Certificate get their reservation benefit denied. This is a common and costly mistake specific to MPSC.
PDF document exceeds portal limit
High-resolution scanned certificates often exceed 1MB. Compress each PDF individually before uploading. Multi-page documents especially need compression.

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) conducts recruitment for Rajyaseva (Deputy Collector, DSP, Sales Tax Officer, etc.), Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), Sales Tax Inspector (STI), Assistant Section Officer (ASO), Clerk-Typist, and dozens of other Group A, B, and C posts across Maharashtra government departments.
All MPSC applications are submitted online through mpsconline.gov.in. The portal is known for strict file size and format validation. Maharashtra also has a unique category system — OBC (Other Backward Class), NT (Nomadic Tribes), VJ-DT (Vimukta Jati and Denotified Tribes), SBC (Special Backward Category), and EWS (Economically Weaker Section) — each requiring specific certificates.
